Gravity and Grace / 2025

The title of the work, Gravity and Grace, comes from French philosopher Simone Weil's Gravity and Grace. Weil argued that even though we are bound by gravity, we can gain grace by accepting emptiness and vacuum.
The jars are inscribed with the vast amount of time that humanity has accumulated on Earth, including patterns of plants and animals and images symbolizing civilizations and history from all over the world. What will appear when the history inscribed by gravity is reproduced in space with light and shadow? When the memories contained in the jars resonate with our inner space, what will be released into the future?
In this exhibition, two jars are placed on either side of the entrance to create a gate of beginning and end. It is both a place of passage and a boundary of history that flows beyond time. In this place in Ginza, where new and old things mix and change, I would like to see what will be released from Pandora's jar and what will remain in the jar.
