Shinji Ohmaki, a Japanese artist, obtained
bachelor’s and master’s degree at the Department
of Sculpture, Art University of Tokyo, and
participated in the residency programs at Vermont
Studio Center and Ssamji Space. He is unique in that
he induces viewers to participate or move in the
work at the final stage of completion of works,
scale of which is usually very large.

Following his award to take part in the Tokyo
Metropolitan Government’s public exhibition “Tokyo
Wonder Wall 2000”, His dynamic installation works
have been receiving worldwide acclaim, leading to
exhibition opportunities in galleries, museums,
public institutions and office buildings alike, not
only in Japan but also in the US, Europe and Asia.

Now, he is participating in the Exhibiton “Is it
Waste?” held at The Global Environment Information
Center from August 11., which coincides with
tendency of Shinji Ohmaki, who makes us reconsider
the relation between articles for our daily use and
the environment or society. In September, a forum on
the theme of “What is Contemporary Art?” is
scheduled to be held in Shanghai as a part of
Contemporary Art Fair. Shinji Ohmaki is also going
to participate in that forum together with curators
and critics in many countries. Two of his works, and,
are possessed by Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art. He
has awarded Special Prize at “Taro Okamoto Memorial
Award for Contemporary Art”, 2003 and been
nominated for McCormick Tribune Foundation
Competition, Chicago, U.S.A, 2006
